Breast Reduction Surgery
Breast growth is affected by hormonal changes that occur during puberty, some develop disproportionately large breasts. For some women, breasts can tremendously increase in size during pregnancy.
Heavy breasts put a lot of stress on the back and shoulders. Heavy breasts sag below the level of the ribs over the abdomen. This tends to affect the posture by making the shoulders to roll forward, which impacts the upper and lower back muscles that strain to support the forward bending of the chest. Hence women with disproportionately large breasts suffer from back pain, shoulder pain, poor posture and limited clothing options.
Take the load off!!
Reduction mammaplasty or breast reduction surgery involves removing excess breast tissue, skin and reshaping the breast mound.
The surgery makes breasts lighter and more proportional to their body size. Reducing the overall weight and lifting the breast by breast reduction surgery gives relief to the patient. Contrary to popular assumption, breast reduction is not only a cosmetic procedure but also a healthy transformation.
SIZE DOES MATTER!
Symptoms due to disproportionately large breasts or gigantomastia which prompt surgical attention include:
- Neck, shoulder and back pain due to heavy breasts.
- Indentation on the shoulder due to brassiere straps.
- Rash or ulceration under or between the breasts.
- Social embarrassment due to size or asymmetry.
The surgery involves the reduction of skin envelope and the breast parenchyma. Techniques ( periareolar, lollipop or anchor shaped) vary according to the skin excess, and parenchymal shaping can be done using various pedicles ( superomedial, inferior, bupedicled ) to maintain blood supply. The incisions are usually well concealed.
